Philippine Arts and Crafts

My first Art Class I developed in June 2020. The program ran for two weeks via Zoom.

Summary of unit

Each Art Class focuses on a natural symbol of the Philippine Culture. Deepening their knowledge and understanding of the themes 

Knowledge and skill

Students will be able to see the relationship of paper and shapes to form an image through basic Arts and Crafts.

Vocabulary

Paper Collage, Jeepney, Philippine Flower Names, Philipine Eagle, Whale Shark.

Learning Activities

All four lessons are inspired by the styles of two Paper Craft Artists named Deborah Shapiroh and Clare Young. In each class, there will be a short lecture of the topic, introduction to the Artists, and demonstration of the Art Work.

Lesson One 

Jeepney Paper Collage

Students will be introduced to Paper Collaging through Artist Deborah Shapiroh while learning more about the iconic Philippine transportation, Jeepney. As a main activity, they will decorate their Jeepney outline with shredded color paper and their own designs.

Lesson Two

Philippine Flowers Paper Craft

Inspired by Paper Craft Artist Clare Young, student will create a cohesive flower paper craft. During the lesson, they will learn facts about the local flowers, and identify if they have it around their home. 

Lesson Three

Philippine Eagle Paper Craft

Continuing with the style of Clare Young, students will create paper craft that forms the Philippine Ealge. During the lesson, they will learn facts about the National Bird.

Lesson Four

Whale Shark Paper Collage

Looping back to Deborah Shapiroh, students will create a Magazine Collage forming a Whale Shark. During the lesson, they will learn facts about our local tourist attraction.
